PC Service Technician/Network Management
Objective:
To provide the student with the knowledge and practical skills to function in an entry-level position as a PC Service Technician, Network Technician, Technical Support or PC Support Specialist.
Note: Classes are 35 hours per week.

  • Basic System Components: Be able to identify and differentiate various input/output components and understand their basic function & component identification
  • Basic CPU Theory & Programming Techniques: Understand how a computer "thinks" to aid in troubleshooting problems. Basic CPU and Mainboard Architecture; The "Boot" Process.
  • Memory: Identify different memory types, configurations and understand their working. 
  • Hard Disks: Types-Controllers, and How a HD Works.
  • Video System: Be able to recommend and optimize Video Output, Video Adapters, & Monitors.

Networking
  • Networking Hardware: Ethernet, Token Ring NICs, Cabling types and issues, Wiring Topologies, Protocols, OSI Model.
  • Windows NT 4 Software Installation & Configuration: Installation and device configuration. Service Packs; Services/Devices.
  • Administration: Peer-to-peer, client/server, Workgroups, Single Domain, Multiple Domain setup and Password & Security policies.

Work Experience
Participants have the opportunity to apply their new skills in the work environment by participating in a six-week work experience. During this time, students offer their skills to a participating employer while the employer mentors the student in the workplace.
